Scholarship

 Purpose / Objective

  
It is the intent and objective of the Ravens Roost 79 Inc. Joseph Lee Lawrence Scholarship Fund to award one scholarship to students graduating from Woodlawn Senior High School or Milford Mill Academy. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior. This award shall be in the amount of one-thousand ($1,000)dollars, and is intended to assist the student in the purchase of educational supplies such as books, writing materials and computer supplies. It is the intent of the committee to continue the award during the four years of the selected students matriculation. However, the student must maintain the requirements set by Roost 79 Inc.

 
Procedure 

The committee will contact the principal or guidance counselor of the selected schools and obtain the names of students who are seniors in need of assistance and have reasonable scholarship (2.5 GPA). The committee will review the application form developed by it and submitted by the applicant. After reviewing the applications submitted, the applicant whom the committee finds worthy will be interviewed in person by the committee. Scholarship awards will be paid to the students account at the institution that the individual is attending. It is also required that no family member of any Ravens Roost is eligible for the scholarship. 

Requirements for Consideration 

• The applicant must be recommended by the chosen school administration. • The administration must articulate why the applicant has a financial need. • The applicant must have a 2.5 grade point average at the time of graduation. There must be three (3) letters of recommendation. • The applicant must submit a two or three page essay (double spaced) titled what a college education means to me. • The applicant must submit the application by the deadline designated by Roost 79 · Requirements after receiving the scholarship The recipient must remain a full time student in order to remain eligible for further disbursement of the scholarship payment. • The recipient must submit to Roost 79, transcripts from the previous year before further scholarship monies will be disbursed. • The recipient must provide documentation indicating enrollment for each year that the scholarship is awarded. The recipient must also provide their mailing address, and student account number assigned by the college or university for disbursement by the Treasurer.
